How to clean your dog beds. Part Two

In this article I will be explaining how best to care for and look after your Durasoft Mattress Dog Bed. Like the Wipe Clean fabric, the Durasoft is also 100% waterproof. There are however some small differences, so we would perhaps recommend a slightly different routine of cleaning this type of bed.

The Durasoft Mattress Dog Beds are our toughest and most durable, fully waterproof dog bed. The fabric is a 1,000-denier texturized heavy duty texturised Nylon with a polyurethane waterproof coating commissioned and manufactured specially for us. A Texturised Nylon is the toughest fabric invented to date (the “texturisation” means that each, strong yarn in the weave grips in to the neighbouring yarn performing a continuous rip-stop effect making our Durasoft dog beds exceptionally durable and tough. As a Nylon it will only allow a minimum of dog hairs stick to it and these are very easy to vacuum off.
If you are using the Durasoft Mattress dog bed on its own, without one of our many different types of optional covers. You could find that if your dog is very hairy and casts a lot a few hairs may stick to the weave of the dog bed. In my daily routine, along with hoovering the floors in the house I also give the dog bed a quick run over with the hoover. This picks up any hair left behind by pooch, and they come up great. Hoovering in this way will also pick up and dried up muddy crumbs that may be lurking on the bed after the last wet walk.

When it comes to the time for a more intensive spring clean we always wait for a nice day and then take all our dog beds of many different shapes and sizes outside for a good scrub. I will stand the dog bed up against our outside fence in the garden and then go back in to the kitchen and boil the kettle. Once it has boiled I pour it into a standard sized mop bucket. I then add some Tech Wash by the company called Nik Wax, but any type of liquid soap will do a great job. Then i put on my thick rubber gloves (so as not to get burnt by the boiling water) and grab my sponge or my soft bristled scrubbing brush, depending on how dirty the beds are. I like to get a real good soapy lather up on the beds when scrubbing and find that if nothing else it’s quite a good way for a little workout! Once the bed has been scrubbed sufficiently I will then grab the hose and hose the soap off. The Durasoft Mattress Beds then stand outside for 10 – 15 minutes to air dry, I sometimes turn them back to front and side to side to get the sun on them. Its excellent as none of the dampness can penetrate through the dog bed and cause any damp smelly situations. Then I take the dog beds back inside and they are ready to go for another while, or until the next muddy field walk at least.
