High Sided Dog Beds Stop the Draught.

It is not rocket science, but it can be a thing we tend to forget: Draught round your dog down on the floor can be serious. There are many dog beds that offer some sort of draught exclusion, but almost all of them are quite shallow. If the sides on a dog bed are not fairly tall, the draught exclusion is not working. For a dog bed that suits a Labrador sized dog you will need sides that are at least 25cm tall. Most dog beds have sides that are a mere 10cm in height. As the body of the dog actually rises above this height, he will be cold. The height of the sides need to fit the size and volume of the dog.

Dogs Love Resting their Heads on the High Sides.

It is definitely a thing! Dogs love to have their heads almost raised up almost as high as if they were standing and not asleep. To a human it doesn’t really look comfortable, but there is no doubt that dogs will sleep for hours like that. They fall asleep with their heads up, watching the world go by till they drift off. My theory is that dogs sleep relatively lightly. They wake by the slightest sound around them and it is great to have one’s head up to see what is happening. Dog Beds MUST Keep their Shape.

The most infuriating thing about “cheap and cheerful” dog beds is that they go flat. We are very proud to see that so many companies have tried to copy our Tuffies Nest dog bed. The problem is, however, that they are copied badly. Every copycat nest that we have seen soon go flat from the weight of the dog’s head. The bed loses shape and the whole bed collapses. At Tuffies we produce a hand crafted dog bed that keeps its shape for many years. We are constantly reminded by our customers that they have had their dog beds for several dog generations. We receive photographs with dogs even standing on the side of the nest beds to look out the window. The Tuffies nests can stand up to that.
