Orthopaedic Dog Beds

Here at Tuffies we use two types of orthopaedic dog bed inners:

  1. For our mattress beds we carefully create a futon type mattress, which gives the perfect support needed for your dog’s body and joints. The futon is made from hollow fibre compressed down to form a firm base that does not go flat or lumpy. The firm surface is just exactly right for supporting joints and spine giving good  rest, warmth and comfort. For older dogs, in particular, it is so important that they are well supported and that the bed is not so soft that it is difficult to get in and out and turning around on the bed.
  2. Our famous Tuffies Nests also contain an orthopaedic dog bed in the centre, surrounded by the totally sturdy walls for your dog to rest his head on. The depth of this bed means that the dog can enjoy total draught free sleeping, which is another important feature when it comes to preventing or alleviating joint stiffness. The orthopaedic dog bed is a human grade mattress that we shape for our oval beds.

Memory foam Dog Beds? We have thought a lot about whether to jump on the bandwagon of memory foam dog beds and decided against it. If you have ever purchased a memory foam bed for yourself and experienced the “off-gassing” that happens when you open the packaging, it really does make you wonder whether this can be ok. It wafts off after weeks or months, but as every dog owner knows, a dog’s nose is extremely sensitive so they will no doubt sense the off-gassing for a lot longer than a human would. Looking into the details of what gasses come off memory foam it is all together dubious how healthy the gasses are. They vary for different mattress  types, but we decided to stay clear of memory foam dog beds as dogs can spend up to 20 hours a day on their bed. Better safe than sorry. No gasses, no PVC and no fire retardant chemicals in Tuffies dog beds.
